Statins
My experience with Statins …
I'm not a doctor, and this isn't medical advice, it's simply my personal experience.
A little while ago, I was prescribed a statin to help lower my cholesterol. Like many people, I trusted the medication and expected everything would be fine.
Over the next 8–12 weeks, I gradually developed a range of symptoms including memory problems, a blackout of time, dizziness, headaches, brain fog, muscle and joint aches (so much so that I bought a massager), and overwhelming fatigue.
It wasn't until I experienced the blackout that I started joining the dots. Looking back, every symptom had appeared after I started taking the statin.
I went back to my doctor and explained what had been happening. He advised that these were recognised side effects of the statin. After discussing my concerns, it became clear that this medication wasn't the right choice for me.
I'm sharing my story because it reminded me of the importance of listening to your body. We all respond differently to medications. While many people take statins without significant problems, others may experience side effects.
If you're taking any medication and notice changes that concern you, don't ignore them. Speak with your doctor or healthcare provider, ask questions, and discuss whether there are other options that may be appropriate for your individual circumstances.
There may also be lifestyle changes or other approaches that can support healthy cholesterol levels, depending on your personal health needs. Do your own research using reliable information, work with a healthcare professional you trust, and remember that what works well for one person may not be the best option for another.
Your health journey is your own. Stay informed, trust your instincts, and never be afraid to advocate for yourself.
